array2table — Convert an array into a table.
array2table(A) splits a homogeneous two-dimensional array into table variables by column. Native integer columns preserve the exact class and values of A.
Syntax
T = array2table(A)
T = array2table(A, nameValuePairs...)Inputs
| Name | Type | Required | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
A | Any | Yes | — | Homogeneous array to split into table variables by column. |
nameValuePairs | Any | Variadic | — | VariableNames, RowNames, or DimensionNames options. |
Returns
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
T | Any | Table whose variables are the columns of A. |
Errors
| Identifier | When | Message |
|---|---|---|
RunMat:table:InvalidArgument | Arguments or table metadata are invalid. | table: invalid argument |
RunMat:table:InvalidIndex | Table indexing is invalid. | table: invalid index |
RunMat:table:InvalidVariable | A table variable name or value is invalid. | table: invalid variable |
RunMat:readtable:IOError | readtable cannot open or read the requested file. | readtable: file read failed |
RunMat:readtable:UnsupportedFileType | readtable receives a file type outside the text or spreadsheet import backends. | readtable: unsupported file type |
How array2table works
- Numeric, complex, logical, string, and cell arrays are split column-wise.
"VariableNames","RowNames", and"DimensionNames"are supported. Current variable names may contain Unicode, spaces, and leading or trailing whitespace; row-name edge whitespace is removed.- Interactive resident GPU input is a mode-gated RunMat extension. It gathers exact typed storage before table construction and rejects in MATLAB-compatible mode.
Example
Create named variables
T = array2table([1 3; 2 4], 'VariableNames', {'A','B'})Expected output:
T = 2x2 tableUsing array2table with coding agents
Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how array2table changes the result.
Run a small array2table example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.
