clearCache — Clear the cache and counters for one MemoizedFunction object.

clearCache(memoizedFcn) removes all cached entries for a MemoizedFunction object and resets TotalHits and TotalMisses to zero.

Syntax

clearCache(memoizedFcn)

Inputs

NameTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
memoizedFcnAnyYesMemoizedFunction object.

Returns

NameTypeDescription
statusNumericScalarZero when the operation completes.

Errors

IdentifierWhenMessage
RunMat:memoize:InvalidObjectA memoized-function method receives a non-MemoizedFunction object.memoize: expected MemoizedFunction object
RunMat:memoize:GcFailureThe memoized object target cannot be allocated or accessed.memoize: internal object storage failed

How clearCache works

  • The input must be a MemoizedFunction object returned by memoize.
  • Cache state is shared per wrapped function, so clearing one object also clears other memoized handles for the same function.
  • The operation returns zero internally and suppresses automatic output in statement form.
  • Object properties such as Function, Enabled, and CacheSize are preserved.

Example

Clear one memoized cache

f = memoize(@sqrt);
f(4);
f(4);
clearCache(f);
S = stats(f)

Expected output:

% S.Cache.TotalHits and TotalMisses are zero.

Using clearCache with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how clearCache changes the result.

Run a small clearCache example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

FAQ

Does clearCache delete the MemoizedFunction object?

No. It only clears cache entries and counters.

Does it affect other functions?

No. Use clearAllMemoizedCaches to clear every memoized-function cache.

Open-source implementation

Unlike proprietary runtimes, every RunMat function is open-source. Read exactly how clearCache is executed, line by line, in Rust.
