clearCache — Clear the cache and counters for one MemoizedFunction object.

clearCache(memoizedFcn) removes all cached entries for a MemoizedFunction object and resets TotalHits and TotalMisses to zero.

Syntax

clearCache(memoizedFcn)

Inputs

NameTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
memoizedFcnAnyYes—MemoizedFunction object.

Errors

IdentifierWhenMessage
RunMat:memoize:InvalidObjectA memoized-function method receives a non-MemoizedFunction object.memoize: expected MemoizedFunction object
RunMat:memoize:GcFailureThe memoized object target cannot be allocated or accessed.memoize: internal object storage failed
RunMat:clearCache:TooManyOutputsAn output is requested from clearCache.clearCache does not return output arguments

How clearCache works

  • The input must be a MemoizedFunction object returned by memoize.
  • Cache state is shared per wrapped function, so clearing one object also clears other memoized handles for the same function.
  • The operation exposes no output argument; requesting one is an error.
  • Object properties such as Function, Enabled, and CacheSize are preserved.

Example

Clear one memoized cache

f = memoize(@sqrt);
f(4);
f(4);
clearCache(f);
S = stats(f)

Expected output:

% S.Cache.TotalHits and TotalMisses are zero.

Using clearCache with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how clearCache changes the result.

Run a small clearCache example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

FAQ

Does clearCache delete the MemoizedFunction object?⌄

No. It only clears cache entries and counters.

Does it affect other functions?⌄

No. Use clearAllMemoizedCaches to clear every memoized-function cache.
