clearCache — Clear the cache and counters for one MemoizedFunction object.
clearCache(memoizedFcn) removes all cached entries for a MemoizedFunction object and resets TotalHits and TotalMisses to zero.
Syntax
clearCache(memoizedFcn)Inputs
| Name | Type | Required | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
memoizedFcn | Any | Yes | — | MemoizedFunction object. |
Returns
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
status | NumericScalar | Zero when the operation completes. |
Errors
| Identifier | When | Message |
|---|---|---|
RunMat:memoize:InvalidObject | A memoized-function method receives a non-MemoizedFunction object. | memoize: expected MemoizedFunction object |
RunMat:memoize:GcFailure | The memoized object target cannot be allocated or accessed. | memoize: internal object storage failed |
How clearCache works
- The input must be a
MemoizedFunctionobject returned bymemoize. - Cache state is shared per wrapped function, so clearing one object also clears other memoized handles for the same function.
- The operation returns zero internally and suppresses automatic output in statement form.
- Object properties such as
Function,Enabled, andCacheSizeare preserved.
Example
Clear one memoized cache
f = memoize(@sqrt);
f(4);
f(4);
clearCache(f);
S = stats(f)Expected output:
% S.Cache.TotalHits and TotalMisses are zero.Using clearCache with coding agents
Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how clearCache changes the result.
Run a small clearCache example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.
FAQ
Does clearCache delete the MemoizedFunction object?⌄
No. It only clears cache entries and counters.
Does it affect other functions?⌄
No. Use clearAllMemoizedCaches to clear every memoized-function cache.
