mlock — Mark the current function or script as locked in RunMat's compatibility registry.

mlock records the active function or script in RunMat's lock registry so mislocked and munlock behave predictably.

Syntax

mlock

Errors

IdentifierWhenMessage
RunMat:TooManyInputsA debugger compatibility helper receives more inputs than it supports.debugger helper: too many input arguments
RunMat:InvalidInputAn input is not a supported text, scalar, or option value.debugger helper: invalid input
RunMat:NoCurrentFile`mlock`, `munlock`, or `mislocked` is called without a current function or script.debugger helper: no current function or script is available

How mlock works

  • mlock accepts no inputs and locks the active function or script name.
  • The registry is thread-local execution state.
  • RunMat does not yet evict parsed/compiled MATLAB functions in the same way MATLAB clears functions from memory, so the lock currently affects compatibility queries rather than code-cache eviction.

Does RunMat run mlock on the GPU?

mlock is host-side execution-state bookkeeping and has no GPU/provider behavior.

Example

Lock the current function

mlock

Using mlock with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how mlock changes the result.

Run a small mlock example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

FAQ

Does mlock prevent RunMat from clearing compiled code?

RunMat does not currently expose MATLAB-style function-cache eviction. The lock state is implemented for mislocked/munlock compatibility.

Open-source implementation

Unlike proprietary runtimes, every RunMat function is open-source. Read exactly how mlock is executed, line by line, in Rust.

About RunMat

RunMat is an open-source runtime that executes MATLAB-syntax code blazing on any GPU. It is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.

  • RunMat automatically optimizes your math for GPU execution on Apple, Nvidia, and AMD hardware. No code changes needed. Simulations that took hours now take minutes.
  • Start running code in seconds. RunMat runs in the browser, on the desktop, or from the CLI. No license server, no IT ticket.
