version — Return RunMat version and MATLAB-compatibility release metadata.
version returns the RunMat crate version. version('-release') returns RunMat's advertised MATLAB compatibility release string.
Syntax
value = runtimeCompat(args...)Inputs
| Name | Type | Required | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
args | Any | Variadic | — | Version query arguments. |
Returns
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
value | Any | Version or logical result. |
Errors
| Identifier | When | Message |
|---|---|---|
RunMat:runtimeCompat:InvalidInput | Arguments are malformed or unsupported. | runtime compatibility helper: invalid input |
How version works
- No arguments returns the RunMat package version.
'-release'returns the centrally configured compatibility release for branching.'-description'returns a human-readable RunMat description.'-java'returns an empty string because RunMat does not embed MATLAB's Java runtime.- Options are text-only. Numeric and resident inputs are rejected without conversion or provider access.
- The documented
'-date'option and two-output[v, d] = versionform are not implemented.
Does RunMat run version on the GPU?
No GPU kernels are launched.
GPU memory and residency
The result is host-resident text.
Using version with coding agents
Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how version changes the result.
Run a small version example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.
FAQ
Is this MATLAB's exact version?⌄
No. It reports RunMat's runtime version plus a MATLAB compatibility release for common branching code.

About RunMat
RunMat is an open-source runtime that executes MATLAB-syntax code blazing on any GPU. It is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.
- RunMat automatically optimizes your math for GPU execution on Apple, Nvidia, and AMD hardware. No code changes needed. Simulations that took hours now take minutes.
- Start running code in seconds. RunMat runs in the browser, on the desktop, or from the CLI. No license server, no IT ticket.
