nanmedian — Compute medians while ignoring NaN values.

nanmedian(A, ...) is a compatibility alias for median(A, ..., 'omitnan').

Syntax

B = nanmean(A, ...)

Inputs

NameTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
AAnyYesInput value.
argsAnyVariadicMethod, dimension, or option arguments.

Returns

NameTypeDescription
BAnyResult value.

Errors

IdentifierWhenMessage
RunMat:missing:InvalidArgumentArguments do not match a supported missing-value syntax.missing-value builtin: invalid argument
RunMat:missing:UnsupportedTypeThe input type has no missing-value representation in RunMat.missing-value builtin: unsupported input type
RunMat:missing:InternalErrorInternal shape or table materialization fails.missing-value builtin: internal error

How nanmedian works

  • Dimension, vector-dimension, and "all" options supported by median are forwarded.

Example

Ignore NaN values

m = nanmedian([1 NaN 5], 'all')

Expected output:

m = 3

Using nanmedian with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how nanmedian changes the result.

Run a small nanmedian example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

Open-source implementation

Unlike proprietary runtimes, every RunMat function is open-source. Read exactly how nanmedian is executed, line by line, in Rust.

About RunMat

RunMat is an open-source runtime that executes MATLAB-syntax code blazing on any GPU. It is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.

  • RunMat automatically optimizes your math for GPU execution on Apple, Nvidia, and AMD hardware. No code changes needed. Simulations that took hours now take minutes.
  • Start running code in seconds. RunMat runs in the browser, on the desktop, or from the CLI. No license server, no IT ticket.
