digitsPattern — Create a pattern matching digit characters.

digitsPattern creates a greedy pattern for Unicode digit characters. It supports one-or-more matching, an exact count, or inclusive minimum and maximum counts.

Syntax

pat = digitsPattern
pat = digitsPattern(N)
pat = digitsPattern(minCharacters, maxCharacters)

Inputs

NameTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
NNumericScalarYes—Exact nonnegative number of Unicode digit characters to match.
minCharactersNumericScalarYes—Minimum nonnegative number of Unicode digit characters to match.
maxCharactersNumericScalarYes—Maximum nonnegative count, or positive infinity for no upper bound.

Returns

NameTypeDescription
outAnyOutput value.

Errors

IdentifierWhenMessage
RunMat:digitsPattern:ArgumentCountMore than two count arguments are supplied.digitsPattern: expected zero, one, or two input arguments
RunMat:digitsPattern:InvalidCountA count is not a host nonnegative numeric integer scalar or positive infinity in the maximum position.digitsPattern: invalid character count
RunMat:digitsPattern:InvalidRangeminCharacters exceeds maxCharacters.digitsPattern: minCharacters must not exceed maxCharacters

How digitsPattern works

  • With no inputs, the pattern matches one or more Unicode digit characters.
  • A single nonnegative integer scalar matches exactly that many digits.
  • Two nonnegative integer scalars specify inclusive minimum and maximum counts; positive infinity is accepted as an unbounded maximum, and matching is greedy toward the maximum.
  • Count controls accept host single, double, and every built-in integer class. Fractional, negative, logical, and resident controls reject.

Example

Using digitsPattern with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how digitsPattern changes the result.

Run a small digitsPattern example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.
