eraseURLs — Erase HTTP and HTTPS URLs from text and web-address tokens from tokenized documents.

eraseURLs erases HTTP and HTTPS URLs from documented text containers. Starting with the compatibility target, it also accepts tokenizedDocument input and removes tokens whose type is web-address.

Syntax

newStr = eraseURLs(str)
newDocuments = eraseURLs(documents)

Inputs

NameTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
textAnyYes—Input text.

Returns

NameTypeDescription
newStrAnyText with matching content erased.
newDocumentsAnyUpdated tokenized documents.

Errors

IdentifierWhenMessage
RunMat:eraseURLs:InvalidInputInput is not documented host text or a tokenizedDocument object.eraseURLs: input must be text or tokenizedDocument

How eraseURLs works

  • newStr = eraseURLs(str) accepts a string array, character vector, or cell array of character vectors and returns the same documented container type.
  • newDocuments = eraseURLs(documents) removes web-address tokens and preserves the document shape and remaining explicit token type metadata supported by RunMat's object model.
  • URL matching is case-insensitive for the HTTP and HTTPS schemes.
  • All integer and logical inputs are invalid; no numeric-to-text conversion occurs.
  • Multirow character matrices and cells containing strings or nested cells are broader RunMat-only forms with independent compatibility gates.
  • RunMat has no resident text storage or eraseURLs provider kernel, so invalid resident numeric values reject without gathering.

GPU memory and residency

Host-only text processing; no provider hook or resident text representation.

Examples

Erase a URL from text

str = "For more information, see https://www.mathworks.com";
newStr = eraseURLs(str)

Expected output:

newStr = "For more information, see "

Erase web-address tokens from documents

documents = tokenizedDocument("Visit https://example.com now");
newDocuments = eraseURLs(documents)

Expected output:

The resulting document contains the tokens `Visit` and `now`.

Using eraseURLs with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how eraseURLs changes the result.

Run a small eraseURLs example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

FAQ

Does eraseURLs accept tokenizedDocument input?⌄

Yes. The compatibility target documents tokenizedDocument input, and RunMat removes tokens whose type is web-address.

Does eraseURLs remove a bare www address?⌄

The documented surface specifies HTTP and HTTPS URLs. RunMat does not advertise bare www. matching as MATLAB-compatible behavior.
