memmapfile — Map file bytes into a MATLAB-compatible memmapfile object.

Maps file bytes into a MATLAB-compatible memmapfile object with typed Format, Offset, Repeat, Writable metadata, and Data fields.

Syntax

m = memmapfile(filename, Name, Value)

Inputs

input1AnyYesFirst input argument.
input2AnyYesSecond input argument.
input3AnyNoOptional third input argument.

Returns

How memmapfile works

  • Supports scalar Format type names such as uint8, uint16, uint32, single, and double.
  • Supports MATLAB-style Format cells such as {type, shape, field}; named formats return Data as a struct field.
  • Offset and Repeat are honored for typed reads. Offset beyond end of file is rejected.
  • The current implementation materializes mapped data into host memory; Writable is recorded but write-through mapping is not implemented yet.

Using memmapfile with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how memmapfile changes the result.

Run a small memmapfile example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

About RunMat

RunMat is an open-source runtime that executes MATLAB-syntax code blazing on any GPU. It is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.

  • RunMat automatically optimizes your math for GPU execution on Apple, Nvidia, and AMD hardware. No code changes needed. Simulations that took hours now take minutes.
  • Start running code in seconds. RunMat runs in the browser, on the desktop, or from the CLI. No license server, no IT ticket.
