fileDatastore — Create a file datastore descriptor object.
fileDatastore(files, Name, Value) creates a descriptor object for file-backed datastore workflows.
Syntax
fileDatastore(files, Name, Value)How fileDatastore works
- The constructor preserves file specifications and common metadata options:
ReadFcn,FileExtensions,IncludeSubfolders, andReadMode. ReadFcnis retained as the supplied value, including function handles, so caller code can pass datastore descriptors around without invoking the reader during construction.- Iterator-style operations such as
read,hasdata, andresetrequire the generic datastore dispatch layer and are not provided by this constructor builtin.
Example
Create file datastore descriptor
ds = fileDatastore('*.txt', 'ReadFcn', @readlines)Expected output:
ds = fileDatastore objectUsing fileDatastore with coding agents
Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how fileDatastore changes the result.
Run a small fileDatastore example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

About RunMat
RunMat is an open-source runtime that executes MATLAB-syntax code blazing on any GPU. It is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.
- RunMat automatically optimizes your math for GPU execution on Apple, Nvidia, and AMD hardware. No code changes needed. Simulations that took hours now take minutes.
- Start running code in seconds. RunMat runs in the browser, on the desktop, or from the CLI. No license server, no IT ticket.
