h5read — Read dense numeric, logical, or string datasets from an HDF5 file.

h5read(filename, dataset) reads a dataset from a native HDF5 file. h5read(filename, dataset, start, count) and h5read(filename, dataset, start, count, stride) read one-based hyperslab selections.

How h5read works

  • Dense floating-point, integer, logical, and variable-length string datasets are mapped to RunMat numeric, logical, and string values.
  • Dataset dimensions are preserved while converting HDF5 row-major raw storage to RunMat column-major arrays.
  • Compound, reference, enum, fixed-array, and nested variable-length HDF5 types raise deterministic unsupported-type errors.
