readstruct — Read XML data into a scalar structure.

readstruct(filename) reads XML from the active RunMat filesystem provider and returns a scalar struct projection of the root element.

Syntax

readstruct(filename)

How readstruct works

  • Supports XML input with elements, text nodes, attributes, repeated sibling elements, comments/prolog skipping, entity unescaping, and malformed-tag validation through the shared XML parser.
  • Supports common name-value options FileType with value xml, AttributeSuffix, and TextNodeName.
  • Attributes are imported as fields named <attribute><AttributeSuffix>, text on non-leaf elements is stored under TextNodeName, and repeated element names are represented as cell columns because RunMat does not yet expose MATLAB struct arrays in this layer.
  • HDF5, Parquet, JSON, and full schema-aware import behavior are outside this XML compatibility slice.

Example

Read XML to struct

s = readstruct('config.xml')

Expected output:

s = struct

Using readstruct with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how readstruct changes the result.

Run a small readstruct example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

About RunMat

RunMat is an open-source runtime that executes MATLAB-syntax code blazing on any GPU. It is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.

  • RunMat automatically optimizes your math for GPU execution on Apple, Nvidia, and AMD hardware. No code changes needed. Simulations that took hours now take minutes.
  • Start running code in seconds. RunMat runs in the browser, on the desktop, or from the CLI. No license server, no IT ticket.
