interp1q — Legacy quick one-dimensional linear interpolation.

interp1q(X,V,Xq) is the legacy quick form of one-dimensional linear interpolation. It uses strictly increasing sample points and returns NaN for out-of-range query points.

Syntax

Vq = interp1q(X, V, Xq)

Inputs

NameTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
XAnyYesStrictly increasing sample locations.
VAnyYesSample values.
XqAnyYesQuery locations.

Returns

NameTypeDescription
VqNumericArrayLinearly interpolated query values.

How interp1q works

  • Accepts exactly three inputs: sample locations X, sample values V, and query locations Xq.
  • X must be a finite strictly increasing vector with at least two points.
  • V must be real or complex numeric data compatible with X using the same sample-dimension rules as interp1; complex values interpolate real and imaginary parts independently.
  • Complex X and Xq inputs are accepted when their imaginary parts are zero; interpolation coordinates must be real-valued and strictly increasing.
  • Vector-valued queries preserve scalar versus array shape for vector V; matrix V returns numel(Xq) by trailing-series dimensions.
  • Only linear interpolation is supported, matching the legacy quick-interpolation API.

Examples

Linear interpolation

vq = interp1q([1 2 3], [10 20 40], [1.5 2.5])

Expected output:

vq = [15 30]

Out-of-range query

vq = interp1q([1 2], [10 20], 3)

Expected output:

vq = NaN

Complex sample values

vq = interp1q([1 2 3], [10+1i 20+3i 40+7i], [1.5 2.5])

Expected output:

vq = [15+2i 30+5i]

Using interp1q with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how interp1q changes the result.

Run a small interp1q example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.
