uint32 — Convert values to unsigned 32-bit integer class.
uint32(X) converts numeric, logical, character, symbolic-constant, and gatherable gpuArray inputs to unsigned 32-bit integer values using saturating rounded conversion.
Syntax
Y = uint32(X)Inputs
| Name | Type | Required | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
X | Any | Yes | — | Input scalar/array value to convert. |
Returns
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Y | NumericArray | uint32-converted output value. |
Errors
| Identifier | When | Message |
|---|---|---|
RunMat:uint32:InvalidArgument | Optional arguments are malformed or unsupported. | uint32: invalid argument |
RunMat:uint32:InvalidInput | Input value cannot be converted to uint32. | uint32: invalid input |
RunMat:uint32:Internal | Internal conversion, gather, or provider upload failed. | uint32: internal error |
How uint32 works
- Rounds fractional numeric values to the nearest integer.
- Clamps negative values and
NaNto0. - Clamps values larger than
intmax('uint32')to4294967295. - Preserves array shape and marks tensor output as
uint32. - Rejects complex, string, cell, struct, object, and function-handle inputs.
Does RunMat run uint32 on the GPU?
There is no provider-native uint32 storage hook yet; gpuArray inputs gather to host and return a host uint32 result.
GPU memory and residency
GPU inputs gather for conversion and return a host uint32 result.
Example
Saturating scalar conversion
uint32([-1 3.5 4294967296])Expected output:
ans =
1x3 uint32 array
0 4 4294967295Using uint32 with coding agents
Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how uint32 changes the result.
Run a small uint32 example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.
FAQ
Does uint32 preserve array shape?⌄
Yes. Non-scalar array inputs keep their original dimensions and are tagged with the uint32 numeric class.

About RunMat
RunMat is an open-source runtime that executes MATLAB-syntax code blazing on any GPU. It is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license.
- RunMat automatically optimizes your math for GPU execution on Apple, Nvidia, and AMD hardware. No code changes needed. Simulations that took hours now take minutes.
- Start running code in seconds. RunMat runs in the browser, on the desktop, or from the CLI. No license server, no IT ticket.
