uint32 — Convert values to unsigned 32-bit integer class.

uint32(X) converts numeric, logical, character, symbolic-constant, and real gpuArray inputs to unsigned 32-bit integer values using saturating rounded conversion.

Syntax

Y = uint32(X)

Inputs

How uint32 works

  • Rounds fractional numeric values to the nearest integer.
  • Clamps negative values and NaN to 0.
  • Clamps values larger than intmax('uint32') to 4294967295.
  • Converts all eight integer classes directly from native storage without a floating-point intermediate.
  • Preserves array shape. A complex host input remains complex when its converted imaginary component is zero.
  • Real gpuArray inputs return provider-owned native uint32 storage; complex gpuArray conversion requires provider support for paired complex-integer storage.

Does RunMat run uint32 on the GPU?

The active provider performs real integer conversion through its native cast hook.

Paired-complex gpuArray conversion preserves exact components, class, owner, and residency through an owner-resolved fallback when a direct provider cast is unavailable.

GPU memory and residency

Real gpuArray inputs remain resident and return native uint32 storage owned by the same provider.

Example

Saturating scalar conversion

uint32([-1 3.5 4294967296])

Expected output:

ans =
  1x3 uint32 array
           0 4 4294967295

Using uint32 with coding agents

Open a RunMat example with live inputs, then ask the agent to explain how uint32 changes the result.

Run a small uint32 example, explain the result, then change one input and compare the output.

FAQ

Does uint32 preserve array shape?⌄

Yes. Non-scalar array inputs keep their original dimensions and are tagged with the uint32 numeric class.
